Olivia Saragosa


Olivia Saragosa was born in Toronto, Canada. She has been a solo member of Oper Halle since the 2014/2015 season. In the 2015/2016 season she is participating in 10 productions of opera, musical & children’s opera. Her operatic roles include Hansel in HANSEL & GRETEL, Mme. Dangeville & Principessa de Bouillon (Understudy) in ADRIANA LECOUVREUR, Rossweiße in WALKÜRE, 3rd Lady in ZAUBERFLÖTE & Curra & Preziosilla (Understudy) in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO. Her musical theatre roles include Queen Anne in the German first premiere of George Stiles’ THE THREE MUSKETEERS, Rosalia/Somewhere Girl in WEST SIDE STORY & Mrs. Darling in PETER PAN. She is also the Opera Diva/Juggler in the children’s opera SID, THE SERPENT WHO WANTED TO SING.

Olivia first appeared at Oper Halle as a guest in 2011 in the role of
Madame Flora in THE MEDIUM. Further guest engagements followed at Oper Halle, in the roles of Hansel, Rossweiße & 3rd Lady. Parallel to her appearances in Halle she performed Bejlja in WIR GRATULIEREN! by Weinberg at Konzerthaus Berlin in 2012/2013. The premiere was recorded and broadcasted by Deutschlandradio Kultur. In June 2013 & 2014 she performed Dorabella in COSÌ FAN TUTTE at the Hofoper in Jena.

In January 2014 she received 2nd prize in the Competition of the "Gesellschaft der Freunde der Staatskapelle Halle". She sang Carmen in the prizewinners' concert with the Staatskapelle under the direction of GMD Josep Caballé-Domenech.

Previous singing engagements have lead her to theatres across German, such as Stadttheater Bremerhaven (full-time ensemble member), Theater Bremen, Konzerthaus Berlin, Opera Halle, Landestheater Schleswig-Holstein, Hebbel Theater Berlin, Theater Hagen, Theater Görlitz, Theater Lüneburg, Theater Brandenburg and Hans-Otto-Theater Potsdam. She debuted in Italy as
Carmen with International Studio Meran. In Canada she has been seen in performances with Opera in Concert and with the Ukrainian Choir Vesnivka.

Her sung repertoire includes
Carmen, the Rossini heroines Isabella, Rosina and Cenerentola, Offenbach's La Périchole & Boulotte in BLUEBEARD, Handel's Cornelia in GIULIO CESARE & Disinganno in IL TRIONFO DEL TEMPO E DEL DISINGANNO, Gluck's Orfeo, Prince Orlofsky in FLEDERMAUS, Kurt Weill's Anna in DIE SIEBEN TODSÜNDEN & Verdi roles Maddalena in RIGOLETTO and Fenena in NABUCCO.

Olivia Saragosa is also active as a concert soloist in works such as Bach's CHRISTMAS ORATORIO, Beethoven's 9th SYMPHONY, Handel's MESSIAH, Mozart REQUIEM, Verdi REQUIEM and Dvorák STABAT MATER singing with the Staatskapelle Halle, Staatskapelle Schwerin, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Saxony-Anhalt, the Academic Orchestra of the Martin-Luther University, among others.

She received a stipend from the Richard-Wagner-Verband Bremen in 2007. After her Masters' degree in voice performance from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 2000 she participated in masterclasses with Ks. Brigitte Fassbaender and Ks. Marjana Lipovšek. She completed her Concert Exam (Artist's Diploma) in 2014 and a Master in Voice and Vocal Pedagogy in 2012 at the Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with Professor Monika Meier-Schmid. Since October 2013, Olivia Saragosa has been a voice instructor at the Martin-Luther University and with the Childrens' and Youth Choir of the Oper Halle. She lives in Germany with her husband, tenor Björn Christian Kuhn and their daughter.
